Kitsilano “the Kits” Beach
It’s summer time, and that means only one thing – time for the beach! Whether you’re looking to catch some rays or work up a sweat on the volleyball courts, there’s nothing like starting your day in the sun with some brunch. And what better neighbourhood to brunch in than Kitsilano? With Kits Beach and Jericho down by the water, and Lacarno and Spanish Banks only a short walk away, it’s the perfect area to rendezvous for some pre-beach eats. Here are our some of our favourite Kits spots for getting our brunch on:

Heading to Kits beach? Stop for brunch at Fable Kitchen, and enjoy some tasty eats created by former Top Chef Canada competitor Trevor Bird. With a focus on local ingredients and West Coast cuisine, you’re sure to find something on their menu that will satisfy your hunger. And if you’re having a difficult time deciding, may we suggest their Beef Burger with The Works. As long as there’s an egg, it’s brunch, right?

The Oakwood Canadian Bistro
If you’re looking for a boozy brunch, look no further than The Oakwood on West 4th. In addition to their seasonal brunch menu, the restaurant makes some of the best brunch cocktails on this side of the water. Our favourite is the Okanagan Coffee, featuring whiskey, maple syrup, coffee, and hand whipped cream. Plus, 25 cents from every caesar and mimosa sold goes towards Children’s Hospital. Drinking before noon has never felt so good.

Cafe Zen on Yew
Craving eggs benedict, but can’t make up your mind about which version to order? Head on over to Cafe Zen on Yew Street! For no extra charge, they will allow you to mix and match from their selection of over a dozen benedicts. Not feeling that hungry? Then order a half order with only a single egg. Not a fan of eggs benedict? Not a problem! Cafe Zen’s extensive menu also features a selection of pancakes, waffles, omelettes, scrambles, and more! Fortunately, the two block downwards hill to Kits beach means you can roll your way there once you’re done.

The Boathouse Restaurant
The Boathouse may be a chain restaurant, but with a location right on Kits Beach, you can’t find a better view. Open every day for brunch, the Boathouse offers a variety of benedicts and omelettes sure to please your taste buds. Our personal recommendation is the Crab Cake Benny featuring two poached eggs with hollandaise sauce over the restaurant’s famous crab cakes. It’s the perfect way to start any morning.

Feel like brunching in style? Au Comptoir offers an everyday breakfast menu and weekend brunch menu that will have you feeling like you’re dining at a Parisian cafe. Have their in house pastry chef make you a fresh pain au chocolat, or enjoy the delicate flavours of their eggs en cocotte. Either way, you are guaranteed to leave satisfied.

Only a 15 minute walk from Jericho Beach, Colony has one of the best brunch deals in the city – 2 For 1 Brunch! Although the brunch menu is small (there are currently only six items on the menu), the savings most certainly are not. Plus they have a great selection of beers and cocktails to go with your early meal.

Looking for something different than your regular brunch fare? Check out the new location of Deacon’s Corner on West Broadway. Not only do they have your traditional breakfast of eggs and bacon, but their extensive menu also features breakfast quesadillas, biscuits and gravy, and a Monte Cristo Sandwich featuring pulled pork, fried chicken, and swiss cheese, sandwiched between three layers of french toast. All topped with two fried eggs. You definitely won’t find this monstrosity anywhere else.

Chewie’s Steam & Oyster Bar
Known for having one of the best caesars in Vancouver, the Kitsilano location of Chewies serves up a southern-style brunch. With everything from fried chicken and waffles to shrimp and grits to a breakfast po’boy, you’re sure to find a comfort food that satisfies. And if none of those whet your appetite, Chewies also offers a selection of freshly shucked oysters. There’s really no better way to start your day.
