Event goers will sip on a selection of fine wines from Oliver’s Golden Mile Bench\, the wine capital of Canada\, while savouring delectable gourmet bites prepared by some of BC’s most renowned chefs and restaurants from the Okanagan Valley and Vancouver. \nCome learn the science behind the food and wine pairings\, which is created using chemistry principles such as mixing acids and fats\, sugars and spices\, and then using alcohols and tannins to compete with the intensity of the food. \n\nTickets to Pairings include an exclusive viewing of Science World’s newest exhibition The Science Behind Pixar\, live demonstrations\, a battle for the Best Dish\, a silent auction\, live music and hands-on Science World activities. Proceeds raised will benefit Science World’s Super Science Club\, an after-school program that provides science and technology activities to underserved students in grades 1–7.

Learn the history of single malt and how The Balvenie maintains its tradition of whisky making from grain to glass. From whisky beginner to seasoned aficionado\, there is something for everyone in this immersive experience.\nVancouver civic historian John Atkin will give a talk on the history and craftsmanship of the iconic Marine Building and Hycroft Manor.\n 2017 Carter Wosk Award Recipient Brad Turner has designed and created the 4-set glasses you will use for the evening tastings. Participants from the Hycroft Manor and Marine Building tasting events will take home a specially boxed set of glasses for personal use or gift giving.\nThe tablescapes will feature select items from master craftspeople including the work of metal artist Stefanie Dueck. More than 13 years ago\, after witnessing the destructive effects of conventional farming on her land\, Foradori switched to biodynamic methods in an effort to protect and heal the earth; she has practiced sustainable winemaking ever since.\nOur second guest of honour is Mateja Gravner\, daughter of esteemed winemaker Josko Gravner who is a foremost vintner in combining forward-thinking biodynamics with more traditional\, non-intrusive winemaking. The Gravner vineyard\, situated in Northeastern Italy\, is completely natural: no additives or temperature control methods are used\, and wines are bottled without filtration.

Check out his selection of hand tools and challenge someone to a game of giant Jenga. \n Jay Miron designs and builds bespoke furniture in his Vancouver studio. He describes his furniture as\, “contemporary\, with a strong mid-century modern influence”. Others in the furniture and design industry often referred to it as\, “functional art”.\nAfter a seventeen-year career as a professional BMX Freestyle rider that saw him win six world championship titles\, Jay decided to leave the bicycle industry and focus his efforts on furniture design.\nHe spent two years training under master craftsman Robert Van Norman at his world renowned Inside Passage School of Fine Cabinet Making\, before returning to Vancouver and enrolling in the interior design program at Vancouver Community College.\nIn 2014 Jay set up shop and began bringing his ideas to life. It wasn’t long before he signed an exclusive deal with international design agency SwitzerCultCreative. Kurtis won the ‘Sommelier of the Year’ award at the 2010 Vancouver International Wine Festival\, has been profiled by Wine Enthusiast Magazine\, ran the wine program for a couple evenings at James Beard House in New York\, and has been a tasting panel participant at Wine & Spirits Magazine. His wine column is published every Wednesday in Canada’s largest urban weekly\, The Georgia Straight. We are honoured to have Kurtis lead us through the evening.\nThis wine pairing dinner features the wines of Stina\, a leading Croatian Producer. They are located on the island of Brač. Kurtis will be lead the dinner to describe each of the wines and how they pair with each course. Ticket price includes; reception wine (Cuvée white)\, two white wine food pairings (Cuvée white & Pošip)\, two red wine food pairings (two levels of Plavac Mali)\, and a dessert wine pairing (Prošek). The menu was co-developed by one of Croatia’s most critically acclaimed chefs and the Croatian Cultural Centre’s chef\, who was trained in Croatia.
