SUMMARY:Gotham Steakhouse & Bar celebrates National Absinthe Day
DESCRIPTION:There are few spirits more legendary and storied than absinthe. Gotham Steakhouse & Bar has long had one of Vancouver’s best selections of this high proof elixir. To mark National Absinthe Day on March 5th\, Gotham is featuring several unique absinthe varieties to be sipped and enjoyed\, alongside delicious\, hand-crafted absinthe cocktails. \n Absinthe is made using the flowers and leaves of the wormwood tree which impart a distinct anise flavor to the spirit. First distilled in Switzerland\, it became more commonly associated with Eastern Europe\, and is now made in countries across the globe. Gotham offers both classic European and craft distilled North American varieties. \n \n For nearly 150 years\, the classic way to enjoy absinthe involves a carefully balanced sweetening and diluting\, allowing the full flavor and aroma to open for the palate. Gotham’s stunning absinthe fountain\, a vision in itself\, is centered by a glass canister of ice and 4 slender silver spigots held high by a lithe winged figure. The absinthe is poured in a glass and a slotted silver spoon holding a cube of sugar is balanced atop the glass. The glass is placed below a spigot\, and the sugar is lit on fire.  The melting ice from the canister slowly drips over the sugar and into the glass\, adding sweetness\, and allowing perfect dilution. For absinthe purists\, this ritual is part of the overall enjoyment\, and it’s a great way to try absinthe with a group of friends as they gather around the bar and watch the pageant of fire and ice. \n Because of its reputation as a hallucinogenic\, absinthe was banned by many countries.  However\, since its prohibition was lifted\, absinthe has become a favorite ingredient for mixologists; its unique black licorice flavor adds complexity and a truly unique aroma. We’re setting out to find a way to recycle the our well loved clothes and turn them into something new. DESCRIPTION:The 22nd Annual Hopscotch Festival is back – but in an entirely new way! Canada’s largest celebration of Scotch and other Whiskies\, Craft and Premium Beer\, Craft and Premium Spirits\, Wine and Food has been given a facelift with immense changes being implemented. It took 22 years but Hopscotch is no longer a “corporate-style” public trade show but rather an experience for the “in” that won’t be forgotten. Some of the new changes are: \nMORE BOOTHS/MORE PRODUCTS\nLast year there was about 80 booths\, this year there is over 130! Last year there was less than 300 products\, this year we will have over 400! More selection\, more great beer\, more whisky\, more spirits and so many other additions. \nLOWER TICKET PRICES\nTicket prices have been reduced! From $53 to (starting at $22)\, the idea for 2017 was to make Hopscotch the BEST night out\, for a affordable price. \nCATEGORIZES SECTIONS\nUnlike last year and years prior\, the booths at Hopscotch will be in categories. The BC Craft Pavilion\, Beers From Around The World\, Whisky Corner\, The Rose Garden (wine)\, Spirits Of The Globe and Craft Cocktails are some of the different areas within the hall this year. If you want beer\, the beer will be in the beer section. Same with the whisky! Each area will be “vibed” differently\, to really accent the theme of the respective product being showcased. \nWHISKY CORNER\nAfter receiving feedback from our guests that they would love all of the exhibited whisky in one area\, we have created Whisky Corner; An event within an event. Over 120 whiskies will be displayed within this new showcase at Hopscotch. From Single Malt Scotch\, to Blends\, from Irish to Japanese\, from Bourbons to Ryes and everything else – it will all be at Hopscotch this year. \nLOCAL: BC CRAFT BEER PAVILION PRESENTED BY THE BC CRAFT BREWERS GUILD\nNew for the very first time in Hopscotch Festival history\, we will showcase all of the amazing BC Craft beers in the same area. Sponsored by the BC Craft Brewers Guild\, LOCAL will be showcase so many of the amazing breweries producing delicious craft beer in BC. This will offer an opportunity for guests to really see (AND TASTE) the magic that is BC Craft. \nLOCAL: BC CRAFT SPIRITS\nJust like the note above\, there will also be a separate section specifically showcasing the amazing craft and small batch spirits being produced in BC. \nCRAFT COCKTAIL SHOWCASE\nPresented By Hendrick’s Gin and Monkey Shoulder Whisky\, the Craft Cocktail Showcase will not only offer different specialty cocktails created in partnership with some of the best mixologists within Vancouver\, but as well\, will showcase the “Hendrick’s Cocktail Configurator”\, a life size cocktail art piece that creates the perfect Negroni as well as Monkey Shoulder’s “Hello Monkey Trolley” which will mix the concept of a great cocktail with vibes of iconic 80s and 90s Hip Hop. \nRESTAURANT ROW\nLikely our biggest piece of feedback every year is more food. Well we heard you. This year will are bringing in celebrity chefs and premium restaurants from around the city including The Pawn Shop\, Steel Toad\, La Pentola\, and others. This will be a food showcase unlike any year prior. \nTHE WINE GARDEN\nWe have brought in a select amount of wineries to showcase some delicious wine\, both international and domestic. The idea behind this new additiona was that pretty much everybody likes wine! Although this isn’t a wine show\, there are people attending Hopscotch that may want to enjoy some vino over dinner\, or others who are attending to be with friends who may not drink beer or spirits. Now there is something for everyone!
