SUMMARY:2018 Korean Culinary Competition in Vancouver
DESCRIPTION:The 2nd annual Korean Culinary Competition hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and Vancouver Community College will take place at VCC (250 West Pender Street) on June 14 at 2 p.m. The public will be invited to try the dishes and enjoy food activities and catering from 3:30 p.m. \nAmateur and professional chefs (in two separate groups) are invited to join. Each contestant will have 90 minutes to prepare a Korean dish to be judged for its taste and presentation.\nIngredients and essential kitchen equipment will be provided\, but you can bring in your own rice cooker if it’s essential. \nTop 3 winners in each group will receive cash prizes. (1st place – $800\, 2nd place – $300\, 3rd place – $100). The first place professional competitor will be awarded a week-long trip to Korea to compete against other winners around the world (this particular cooking competition takes place in various countries) and will have the chance to travel to renowned restaurants in the country. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Gastown Chicken Fight Returns for the seventh year of Wing to Wing Combat \nGastown bars and restaurants will compete to become the wing champions \nOn Sunday\, May 20th the Gastown Chicken Fight will return for its lucky 7th year of wing to wing combat at The Lamplighter Pub. Wing lovers are invited to make their way to Gastown to be help crown the wing masters from the participating restaurants and teams. \nAs in years past\, the rules of the competition are simple: on the Thursday before the contest\, each team is given 20lbs of wings and a bottle of Hornitos Tequila to use in their recipe\, giving them ample time to brine\, smoke\, sous-vide\, or whatever else their recipe requires. On Sunday\, they arrive at ready to grill their creations on the patio and\, when the wings are cooked and ready to go\, they’re served up for eating and judging. The final outcome is based upon the combined voting of the judging panel and the public. \nLast year’s champion home team from The Lamplighter are getting ready to defend their title against a field of competitors from the neighbourhood. SUMMARY:Gastown Chicken Fight Returns  for a Sixth Year @ The Lamplighter
DESCRIPTION:The Lamplighter hosts Gastown bars and restaurants to find the king of wings \nOn Sunday\, May 21st\, The Lamplighter Pub is inviting wing lovers to be part of the sixth annual Gastown Chicken Fight\, which brings the restaurants and bars of the neighbourhood together in competition to see who can make the best wings around. In another afternoon of whisky and wings combat\, teams will line up at the grill to see who will bask in the glory of being Gastown’s wing masters. \nWith a year’s worth of bragging rights on the line\, teams are already working on their recipes in preparation for the contest. The rules are simple: the night before the contest\, each team is given 20lbs of wings and a bottle of Jim Beam Bourbon to use in their recipe. They return to The Lamplighter on Sunday\, ready to grill their creations on the patio. When the wings are cooked and ready to go\, they’re served up for eating and judging\, with the final outcome based on the combined voting of the judging panel and the public. \nDefending champion Bao Down will be back to defend their title against a field of competitors which currently includes Gringo\, Clough Club\, Blarney Stone\, and\, of course\, The Lamplighter. The competitor list will be evolving up until the day of the event\, so chicken wing lovers should follow along on Twitter and Instagram at @Lamplighter_Pub for the latest news about participating restaurants and judges. Then plan to visit the Lamplighter for some long weekend wings and whisky fun.
