Talking with another person\, communicating with a mind outside of your own mind puts you in touch with the part of your Self that is bigger than your mind\, larger than your thoughts. That’s because the act of CONNECTING with another pulls you out of your ongoing internal dialogue and into an external one. \n\n\n\n\n\nIn an external dialogue\, another person can bring you fresh energy\, provide a different perspective. They can come to the subject with a clear head\, free of the self judgement through which you are looking at everything. They see YOU as you really are\, proving the irony that sometimes you have to get out of yourself to get into yourself. Sometimes you have to stop looking at yourself to see yourself.”\n\n\n\n\n\n-Neale Donald Walsh\, When Everything Changes\, Change Everything.

Her culinary education continued throughout the world\, including the Culinary Institute of America\, The Thai Cooking School in Bangkok & Japanese Food Art in Tokyo. In 1978 she founded Caren’s Cooking School\, which now is one of Canada’s longest running\, privately owned schools. In addition to teaching\, she hosts The Sunday Morning Show “Cooking 101” on GLOBAL TV’S weekend news. She is a weekly guest on CKNW with Simi Sara called “Foodie Friday” \nShe is the author of 3 books and co-author of 3\, her 7th book published by Random house/Penguin will be released October 2017. \nCaren’s love of good food inspired the innovative concept of\, “THE GOURMET WAREHOUSE”. The first store of its kind in Canada to unite gourmet specialty foods\, kitchenware and supplies offering more than 28 thousand sku’s. Her other company “Continental Importers” is responsible for seeking out and obtaining the international food procurement to keep both companies on the cutting edge of food trends. \nDedicated to helping others in the business\, she co-founded the BC Chapter of Les Dames D’Escoffier\, an international organization that promotes the professionalism of women in the culinary industry whose mission is to provide culinary scholarship opportunities to women. \nCaren has recently been inducted into the BC RESTAURANT HALL OF FAME\, has been included in Business in Vancouver’s top 25 performing businesses in British Columbia owned by women and is Where Magazine’s 2016 Trailblazer. She has also won the 2017 Board of Trade Wendy McDonald award for retail innovator of the year.. \nYou can follow Caren McSherry on Twitter @caren_mcsherry and on Instagram @Caren_Mcsherry  \n \nPaul Grunberg \n\nPaul Grunberg \nCo-Owner L’Abattoir and Osteria Savio Volpe \nPaul Grunberg\, host & restaurateur\, is a force of nature in the Vancouver hospitality scene. Milano’s Master Roaster\, Brian Turko falls into this category. \nBrian was born and raised in Vancouver’s Little Italy. There he discovered espresso bars in the early 1980’s when there was only a handful in the city\, including Café de Milano where Brian came across a taste that changed his life. It was the taste of 100% Arabica coffee espresso with 7 to 11 varietals in each blend\, masterfully crafted by Milano’s founding father\, Francesco Curatolo. This was the beginning of a special relationship between teacher and student that would span almost two decades. \nFollowing a 15 year mentorship to Francesco\, Brian Turko\, has earned his place as a West Coast coffee pioneer\, elevating the premium coffee concept to new heights. Combining a careful diligence for Italian tradition with a boundless appetite for innovation\, Brian’s novel blending concepts have created the ‘Milano taste’ hailed by coffee connoisseurs throughout the world and awarded multiple times by the International Institute of Coffee Tasters. \nFollowing his mentorship to Francesco\, Brian continued to dedicate his life to the pursuit of the perfect blend. His passion\, tenacity and talent for the craft of roasting and blending regularly takes him into rarified territory in the coffee world. \n \nIan Bruce \n\nIan Bruce \nFounder – Umaluma Gelato \nIan Bruce is a business executive and entrepreneur with 25 years experience in technology sales and business development. He is a “Foodie” with a passion for food excellence who is inspired by food that makes a difference in our lives. Food that is organically grown\, ethically sourced and combined in ways that tantalize and seduce one’s sense experience. Focused on creating the ultimate\, healthy alternative to the beloved ice cream experience\, Umaluma boasts more than 20 original flavours that combine ultra-premium ingredients sourced all over the planet\, with an original non-dairy based formula that tastes and feels even creamier than conventional ice cream – Ice Cream Evolved. \n  \nJason Gilron \nPresident – Pacific Restaurant Supply \nJason leads the design and sales division of Pacific. SUMMARY:CE SOIR NOIR 2017
DESCRIPTION:Ce Soir Noir 2017 – A Free Public Picnic at Crab Park\nCreated by artists George Vergette and Graeme Berglund in 2015. \nWelcome to the second eclipse of August. \nCe Soir Noir.\nThis Black Night.\n(translation into The English) \nIt’s as easy as this: Wear all black clothing. Food. Drink. Micro-dosage. Friends. Big Blankie. Thursday\, August 24th. 5pm till 10pm. \nFor the third year running we invite you to do next-to-nothing on Thursday\, August 24th at CRAB Park. Just show up whenever you feel like it\, but probably when you’re hungry\, feeling pretty loose and you’ve got a few decent looking friends with you who are dressed toque to toes in the blackest clothing from your walk-in closet. Celebrating the near inane\, yet also the taurine bolstered energy that a communal gathering can provide – the annual picnic of darknessness is back in black. We actually got a permit this year\, so we’re essentially Airbnb’ing all of Crab Park for the collective experience of asses on patches of grasses in masses eating stashes in blackness. People of all races\, sensual orientations\, genders\, ages\, and blood types are welcome – except for Swedes. We’ve done the research. \nThis is not just a picnic; this is a picnic based art installation. If you show up\, you are part of the art project and we ask that you surrender to it. So; be analogous to art. Every conversation\, every time you swish thatt hott butt – it is performance. Be you Modernist\, Minimalist\, Net-Artish\, Fluxus-y\, or that weekend warrior artist from Dunbar that paints crappy nasturtiums that you couldn’t even give away; you are art\, or will simply become it with little to no effort. \nCRAB Park (which includes legendary Sean Orr’s Beach) is one of the most grandiose parks in East Van. We want to ensure that it stays that way. We ask that you please take with you what you brought so as to leave the park spotless for the next day’s international witnesses to it’s splendour. \nFor the third year in a row we have partnered with Backpack Buddies\, an organization that distributes food to children in need in the DTES. We’ve worked with them to help raise hundreds of dollars and hundreds of pounds of food in the last couple years. This is a free public event. If possible\, in return\, we ask that you bring a child oriented food item (healthy gooshy fruity thingy rather than another can of basil infused tomatoes) or a cash donation and drop it off at their booth. \n*** We are looking for a few volunteers this year. If you’re down\, please hit us up direct. \nBrought to you this year by Bri Proke\, Sarah Tesla\, Ernesto Kut Gomez\, Tyrone Lingley\, Greg Mindorf; Graeme and George.\n\nOur hashtag last year was #TAMMYANDCHADSWEDDING. This year we are proud to announce that we’ve secured #CESOIRNOIR2017 \nCRAB Park (which includes legendary Sean Orr’s Beach) is one of the most grandiose parks in East Van. We want to ensure that it stays that way. We ask that you please take with you what you brought so as to leave the park spotless for the next day’s international witnesses to its splendour. \nThank you. Looking forward to chilling with you. \nPostscript: If you don’t get why we’re doing this\, you don’t get much.
