SUMMARY:Kombucha Class
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of at home Kombucha Fermentation with Laura Reid of Counter-Cultures.All participants will receive an information booklet\, as well as a kombucha culture to start your ferment at home.\nCheck out the various ticket options ranging from $20-35 (click ticket link for details)If cost is a barrier to participation\, please reach out to laura@counter-cultures.ca to discuss options such as trades.Counter-Cultures focusses on providing simple skill share workshops\, and ongoing fermentation support. Some reasons why we suggest learning about kombucha:–This approachable ferment is easy to fit into a schedule. Requiring a check up about once a week\, and about 3 hours a month to produce atelast four litres of bubbly brew.–Once you have learnt about kombucha\, you will have a fundamental understanding of fermentation\, and will be able to approach other ferments easily (sauerkraut\, sourdough\, beer\, etc.)–Home fermentation can produce affordable\, delicious\, low sugar\, low alcoholic alternatives to soft drinks & alcoholic beverages.–It’s fun!All questions regarding this class can besent to laura@counter-cultures.caWe encourage community collaboration so feel free to reach out if you would like to host a class\, teach a class or chat about the future of Counter-Cultures.

SUMMARY:Metro Vancouver Feast of Fields\, 23rd Annual
DESCRIPTION:Feast of Fields is a four hour wandering gourmet harvest festival that highlights the connections between farmers and chefs\, field and table\, and between farm folks and city folks. With a wine glass and linen napkin in hand\, guests stroll across a farmers field\, traveling from tent to tent (sometimes through the barn\, past the tractor or around the chicken coup) listening to live music\, and tasting gourmet creations from BC top chefs\, farmers\, fishers\, ranchers\, food artisans\, vintners\, brewers\, distillers and other beverage producers. \nFeast of Fields is a fundraiser for FarmFolk CityFolk\, helping to fulfill our mission to cultivate a local\, sustainable food system by building a market for local food through celebration. Since its inception\, Feast of Fields has only featured local producers\, artisans\, winemakers\, brewers and distillers\, and only those chefs that have existing relationships with local farmers and producers. For those businesses Feast of Fields offers a great way to highlight their commitment to local\, sustainable food and promote their business to customers that truly love and support the local food movement. As well\, for the host farm Feast of Fields provides a boost by introducing guests to their products and their farm. \nCheck out the “Chefs & Makers” section on our website www.feastoffields.com that provides a search engine that will help you find businesses that support FarmFolk CityFolk. We encourage you to support their business and book a table at their restaurant\, find their products\, or visit their farm or tasting room. Through feastoffields.com you can experience Feast of Fields all year round.

SUMMARY:CE SOIR NOIR 2017
DESCRIPTION:Ce Soir Noir 2017 – A Free Public Picnic at Crab Park\nCreated by artists George Vergette and Graeme Berglund in 2015. \nWelcome to the second eclipse of August. \nCe Soir Noir.\nThis Black Night.\n(translation into The English) \nIt’s as easy as this: Wear all black clothing. Food. Drink. Micro-dosage. Friends. Big Blankie. Thursday\, August 24th. 5pm till 10pm. \nFor the third year running we invite you to do next-to-nothing on Thursday\, August 24th at CRAB Park. Just show up whenever you feel like it\, but probably when you’re hungry\, feeling pretty loose and you’ve got a few decent looking friends with you who are dressed toque to toes in the blackest clothing from your walk-in closet. Celebrating the near inane\, yet also the taurine bolstered energy that a communal gathering can provide – the annual picnic of darknessness is back in black. We actually got a permit this year\, so we’re essentially Airbnb’ing all of Crab Park for the collective experience of asses on patches of grasses in masses eating stashes in blackness. People of all races\, sensual orientations\, genders\, ages\, and blood types are welcome – except for Swedes. We’ve done the research. \nThis is not just a picnic; this is a picnic based art installation. If you show up\, you are part of the art project and we ask that you surrender to it. So; be analogous to art. Every conversation\, every time you swish thatt hott butt – it is performance. Be you Modernist\, Minimalist\, Net-Artish\, Fluxus-y\, or that weekend warrior artist from Dunbar that paints crappy nasturtiums that you couldn’t even give away; you are art\, or will simply become it with little to no effort. \nCRAB Park (which includes legendary Sean Orr’s Beach) is one of the most grandiose parks in East Van. We want to ensure that it stays that way. We ask that you please take with you what you brought so as to leave the park spotless for the next day’s international witnesses to it’s splendour. \nFor the third year in a row we have partnered with Backpack Buddies\, an organization that distributes food to children in need in the DTES. We’ve worked with them to help raise hundreds of dollars and hundreds of pounds of food in the last couple years. This is a free public event. If possible\, in return\, we ask that you bring a child oriented food item (healthy gooshy fruity thingy rather than another can of basil infused tomatoes) or a cash donation and drop it off at their booth. \n*** We are looking for a few volunteers this year. If you’re down\, please hit us up direct. \nBrought to you this year by Bri Proke\, Sarah Tesla\, Ernesto Kut Gomez\, Tyrone Lingley\, Greg Mindorf; Graeme and George.\n\nOur hashtag last year was #TAMMYANDCHADSWEDDING. This year we are proud to announce that we’ve secured #CESOIRNOIR2017 \nCRAB Park (which includes legendary Sean Orr’s Beach) is one of the most grandiose parks in East Van. We want to ensure that it stays that way. We ask that you please take with you what you brought so as to leave the park spotless for the next day’s international witnesses to its splendour. \nThank you. Looking forward to chilling with you. \nPostscript: If you don’t get why we’re doing this\, you don’t get much.
