SUMMARY:Gotham Steakhouse & Bar celebrates National Absinthe Day
DESCRIPTION:There are few spirits more legendary and storied than absinthe. Gotham Steakhouse & Bar has long had one of Vancouver’s best selections of this high proof elixir. To mark National Absinthe Day on March 5th\, Gotham is featuring several unique absinthe varieties to be sipped and enjoyed\, alongside delicious\, hand-crafted absinthe cocktails. \n Absinthe is made using the flowers and leaves of the wormwood tree which impart a distinct anise flavor to the spirit. First distilled in Switzerland\, it became more commonly associated with Eastern Europe\, and is now made in countries across the globe. Gotham offers both classic European and craft distilled North American varieties. \n \n For nearly 150 years\, the classic way to enjoy absinthe involves a carefully balanced sweetening and diluting\, allowing the full flavor and aroma to open for the palate. Gotham’s stunning absinthe fountain\, a vision in itself\, is centered by a glass canister of ice and 4 slender silver spigots held high by a lithe winged figure. The absinthe is poured in a glass and a slotted silver spoon holding a cube of sugar is balanced atop the glass. The glass is placed below a spigot\, and the sugar is lit on fire.  The melting ice from the canister slowly drips over the sugar and into the glass\, adding sweetness\, and allowing perfect dilution. For absinthe purists\, this ritual is part of the overall enjoyment\, and it’s a great way to try absinthe with a group of friends as they gather around the bar and watch the pageant of fire and ice. \n Because of its reputation as a hallucinogenic\, absinthe was banned by many countries.  However\, since its prohibition was lifted\, absinthe has become a favorite ingredient for mixologists; its unique black licorice flavor adds complexity and a truly unique aroma. In honor of this legendary and mysterious spirit\, Gotham’s bar team has curated a very special selection of pure absinthe spirits and iconic cocktails including the Corpse reviver #2 and Sazerac. \n The National Absinthe Day feature sheet will be offered from March 5th-11th – it’s the perfect opportunity to visit Gotham Steakhouse & Bar to learn the ritual and lore of absinthe. \n Visit www.gothamsteakhouse.com to learn more about Vancouver’s most awarded steakhouse.

SUMMARY:Hopwired 2018
DESCRIPTION:Hopwired Festival 2018 begins February 24 2018 at the Croatian Cultural Center in Vancouver\, Canada. \nFeaturing local\, national\, and international craft beer and third-wave coffee. Hopwired encourages partnership between craft beer and coffee roasters to make beverages that are fruity\, flowery\, tangy\, spicey\, nutty\, chocolately\, sweet\, sour\, soft\, mild\, and strong. \nWe have selected some of our favourite breweries and roasters to team up with each other and bring you some of their best offerings. Patrons at the event will be able to taste the beer\, and the coffee that’s been used in that beer alongside their partner brewery. Expect up to 40 vendors with including up to 15 unique collaborations between 15 craft breweries and 15 coffee roasters. With the all-inclusive coffee means all-inclusive espresso poured by world-leader and Vancouver Business Icon ECM (Espresso Coffee Machines) on their Victoria Arduino Black Eagle Gravimetric espresso machine. \nHopwired is focused on coffee and craft beer. We also offer food trucks\, donuts\, and water by H20 Element to give your palate a break so that you can be nourished and enjoy your day. \nExpect live interviews and tastings with brewers and roasters hosted by Aaron from CASCADIAN.BEER. With over 15 years in the broadcast industry in three countries\, Aaron’s podcast stands out from the others and recently ranked as high as #2 in Apple Podcasts for craft beer. His background includes interviewing Paul Hadfield of Spinnakers\, Canada’s first brewpub in Victoria\, to small up and coming breweries like Steel & Oak\, Dageraad\, and Propolis. Aaron recently interviewed industry leaders of a national scale like Charlie Papazian and other leaders in the Brewers Association. \nWe end the night with a special presentation from the Vancouver Coffee Snob. His unique style of writing has been called ‘bold’\, ‘unique’ and ‘worse than my 5 year old’s best efforts”. He vehemently denies that his writing is bold and unique. Expect a coffee fueled energy award show that can only be described as bold and unique. \nStart browsing the list of coffee and beer vendors at www.hopwired.ca starting December 2017. \nCollaborations will start being announced mid-January. Expect new vendors with new beers and coffees\, for the first time in BC and Canada alongside many great local roasters and breweries making unique beers. \nEarly Bird General Admission Tickets are on sale Saturday\, December 16th 2017 at 10am. \nEarly Bird General Admission Tickets are $52 (plus taxes and fees). \nSave money and buy your tickets early by signing up to the Hopwired.ca mailing list.
