SUMMARY:Raise The Barn
DESCRIPTION:Hazelmere Organic Farms\, A Evening Of Community With A Cause\n\n\n\nWe are excited to bring together some of the local industries brightest talents to support one of the regions greatest producers. \nOn September 14th please join us for a multi-course meal that is sure to be an event like no other. ***Menu to be confirmed however due to the nature of this event we will be unable to accommodate dietary restrictions*** \nWe are delighted to be able to put together an incredible lineup of talent to bring attention and support to Hazelmere Organic Farms. The lineup for the evening will include such talents as Karen McKathy of Blue Heron\, Brad Hendrickson of Biota Fermentation\, Alex Tung of La Grotta and Chef’s Society\, David Gunawan of Farmers Apprentice and Ubuntu\, Wendy Boys\, Andrea Carlson of Burdock & Co and Harvest\, Alvin Pillay of Donnelly Group\, Jefferson Alvarez\, and Tom Gass of Fieldstone Bakery. \nHazelmere Organic Farm is nestled within an agricultural sanctuary in South Surrey. Over the 30 years the land has been developed by the King family\, the farm has produced 115 types of plants. Naty King has continued with the earth-conscious endeavours she developed with her late husband Gary King. Following traditional methods of top soil management\, the farm yields many varieties of organic vegetables and culinary herbs which are sold locally to customers and fine restaurants. \nRecently the barn at Hazelmere Organics burned down which was the main hub of operations for the farm. It supplied the power\, processed the vegetables\, had the cold storage and also controlled the water for the farm. \nFor the past 35 year the barn had been insured\, but due to an increase in premiums Naty had to make a hard decision to let her insurance lapse until after the growing season when she would be able to pay for the renewal. \nEven thought the historical barn can not be replaced we can raise from the ashes\, come together as a community and raise a new barn for this amazing cornerstone of the lower mainland and food community

SUMMARY:Fraser Valley Fruit Beer Festival
DESCRIPTION:A new craft beer festival launches this summer in Abbotsford at the Railway District Community Market\, with beers made exclusively with bush fruits and tree fruits. “The festival is much like our Hopwired Festival\, where we pair craft breweries and coffee roasters\, Fruit Beer Festival’s taking on pairing breweries and fruit growers to make juicy beers without artificial flavours and syrups.” says Mike Willis\, of West Craft. “We’re regular attendees of both Abbotsford’s Farm Market and Vancouver’s Riley Park Farm Market and we imagined a beer festival inside of a farmers market – due to liquor laws a beer festival has to be 19+ – so we turn to putting on Fruit Beer Festival to help support local fruit producers while doing something delicious that hasn’t been done in Canada”. West Craft\, the organizer behind Fruit Beer Festival\, is promising an all-inclusive drink commitment with tickets\, live music by Dan Tait and Tiger Moon\, a ton of food vendors with a pop-up farmers market\, and a scoop of ice cream from Banter Ice-cream. Festival organizers approached brewers with the challenge of making original beers using real whole\, pureed\, or juiced fruits without using any of the extracts or flavorings that have contributed to giving fruit beers a bad name \nFeaturing more than twenty-five different beers from over fifteen breweries from the Northwest and beyond\, the Fruit Beer Festival is a celebration of the wonderful variety of flavours that fruits offer and the incredible and unique beers that the brewers can make with them. Festivities will kick off on August 24th at 1:00PM with juicy beer samples available all day until 6:00PM with an affordable shuttle from King George Station and Lougheed Town Station to move people in-and-out of the city so that you can sample without having to worry about driving to the valley. \nAfter entry\, you are invited to taste collaboration beers and fruits from over fifteen craft breweries and farmers\, snack on delicious ice cream from Banter Ice Cream\, sample fruited kombucha from o5 Rare Tea Bar and refresh your palate with the curated palate cleanser bar\, which will feature a selection of more rare and refreshing un-fruited beers. Expect to taste new and unique belgian-style beers\, and american-style beers – alongside cherries\, raspberries\, blueberries\, kiwis and more – from the likes of 33 Brewing Experiment\, Luppolo Brewing Co.\, Field House Brewing\, Four Winds Brewing\, Garden Path Fermentation\, House of Funk Brewing\, Nickel Brook Brewing\, o5 Rare Tea Bar\, Silver Valley Brewing\, Sundown Beer\, Taylight Brewing\, Temporal Artisan Ales\, Twin Sails Brewing\, Wild Ambition Brewing\, and many\, many more. Guests will not experience another 19+ farm market and fruit beer festival like this – it has not been done anywhere else. Early bird tickets go on sale March 23 at 10am. \nFor more information about Fruit Beer Festival or to purchase tickets for the festival\, please visit: www.fruitbeer.ca \n
