SUMMARY:The office launch of ROASTER CENTRAL on Septmeber 13 at Espresstec
DESCRIPTION:ATTENTION COFFEE LOVERS! \nROASTER CENTRAL\, Vancouver’s very first coffee tasting centre\, is set to launch on September 13 th at Espressotec on Clark\nDrive. Here they offer the chance for coffee-drinkers of every\ntype to brew and taste a full spectrum of coffees by donation at the customer’s discretion. Featuring up\nto 40 different coffees freshly-roasted by roasters from local regions and beyond\, it’s the ultimate\ncoffee-tasting destination! \nThe impressive bank of Baratza Sette 270Wi grinders in the brand new flight centre at Espressotec’s\nshowroom is a sight unlike any other in this coffee-loving city. Lined up along a counter beneath shelves\nof brightly-packaged coffee\, each grinder will feature a different coffee that visitors can grind and brew\ninto tasting flights. In this way\, coffee lovers can transport their taste buds to global coffee origins like\nEthiopia\, Peru\, Indonesia\, etc. and explore a wide range of flavour profiles (Bright / Citrus\, Fruit-\nForward\, Rich / Sweet\, Earth / Smoke\, etc.) — all in one place\, for only the cost of a donation to Lookout\nSociety. \n“The coffee-tasting experience can be as complex and satisfying as that of wine or scotch\,” explains Reg\nJames\, owner of Espressotec. “But not everyone wants to dive in blindly and buy a full bag — or even a\ncup — of an unfamiliar coffee. Roaster Central provides an easy way for those who are new to specialty\ncoffee to try some really interesting coffees without that upfront cost.” \nVisitors will also learn to brew coffee using a pour over method that encourages a full sensory\nexperience\, guided by knowledgeable Espressotec staff. Coffee featured at Roaster Central will be\navailable for purchase in-store and on Espressotec’s online store. The aim is to showcase a variety of the\ntalented specialty coffee roasters that are pushing the local\, national and global coffee industry forward.\nAmong the participating roasters so far are Pallet (Vancouver)\, Drumroaster (Cobble Hill)\, Chronicle\n(Calgary)\, Smoking Gun (Mission)\, Contrabean (Kitchener)\, East Van Roasters (Vancouver)\, Notch (Delta)\,\nCaffé D’arte (Seattle)\, Mogiana (Richmond) and many more. \nThe official launch on Thursday\, September 13 th will begin at 4pm at Espressotec with refreshments\, a\nroaster meet-and-greet\, photo opportunities\, door prizes\, and (of course) all the coffee you can drink.

SUMMARY:ONIGIRI MAKING WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION:Onigiri is the Japanese answer to the sandwich. These balls of rice have aristocratic beginnings\, much like the sandwich\, and similarly have evolved into a casual and convenient food that anyone can make at home.\nThe Tale of Genji\, written by Murasaki-Shikibu in Japan during the 11th century\, makes the first mention of the eating of rice formed into balls. Now\, nearly a thousand years later\, onigiri is a staple of the Japanese diet\, though it is only starting to gain traction in the West.\nOften wrapped in nori\, just like sushi\, many talk about the resemblance between the two. While the making of sushi takes years to master and is not typically prepared at home\, onigiri is an everyday food. They are prepared by mothers for lunch boxes\, are available in corner stores\, and are the perfect sustenance to take along on hikes\, picnics\, train rides\, and road trips.\nIn this workshop you will learn how to wash and cook the rice for optimal taste and texture\, and explore some filling options like: ground pork\, tuna-mayo\, and Abokichi’s OKAZU (miso & sesame spice condiments). Last but not least\, participants will be able to try their hand at forming onigiri using a few different techniques. You will be leaving with two onigiri to snack on\, a sample of onigiri film\, a jar of Abokichi’s OKAZU\, and the skills to start making your own onigiri at home.\n ———————————————————————————\nFAQsAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?Must be 19+ to attend event. Not intended for children\, unless otherwise specified. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?21 minute walk from Lansdowne Station\, and a 9 minute walk from 401 Bus Stop at Westminster Highway and Elmbridge Way. Free limited street parking available nearby\, free 3-hour parking available at T&T (5511 Hollybridge Way)\, and paid parking available at the Richmond Olympic Oval ($1/hr).\nWhere is the event held? The event space is located 5-minute walk from the Richmond Olympic Oval.
