SUMMARY:Bitter Truths: A Spring in Your Sip
DESCRIPTION:WORKSHOP \n\nNOTE: There will be no harvesting on this program. Open to ages 19+ only. \n\nOur Bitter Truths series delves into artisanal alcohol infusions\, where we craft bitters from ethically sourced plants native to Stanley Park. Learn about the rich tradition of bitters as medicines and more recently as flavouring agents\, opening a vast possibility of layers to drinks. As our plants begin to stir in the beginnings of spring\, stir their flavours into your cocktails\, too. \n\nTry a cocktail with pre-prepared bitters at this session\, then take home your own creations as well as bottled liquors we’ll have on sale. The amazing specialists at Tailored Spirits\, a local distillery with a heart for the West Coast\, will be leading us in their tried and tested techniques. \n\n\nPhoto: Richard King

SUMMARY:Vancouver Food Styling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This six hour hands-on workshop is designed for food content creators: bloggers\, social media managers\, Instagrammers\, and anyone else who needs to create vibrant\, beautiful food imagery \nThe focus in this session will be food stlying fresh salad ingredients as well as raw fruits and veggies – just in time for spring and summer content creation.  We will also cover some basic post-processing and editing techniques using common phone apps and Adobe Lightroom.  We’ll wrap up the day with a one hour round table discussion on the business aspects of food photography – licensing\, selling images\, white label content creation as well how to extend the life of your images. \nPLEASE NOTE: the emphasis of this workshop is on food styling and not food photography. \nYou will learn… \n* how to plan and compose a shot\n* how to use props\, backdrops and garnishes to help tell your story\n* how to style the same items in multiple ways to create different looks and moods\n* how to frame shots for different mediums (i.e. your blog\, Instagram\, Facebook\, stock photography)\n* how to work towards a zero waste photo shoot (you shoot it\, you eat it!)\n* how to do basic post processing and editing using phone apps or in Adobe Lightroom (bring your laptops and phones!)\n* how to repurpose the imagery you create\n* how to generate extra income from your food photos\n* how to work smarter and more efficiently \nGO HOME WITH CONTENT THAT’S READY TO USE\nAt the end of the workshop we want you to go home with finished content you can use.  Whether that’s photos for a blog post or images you can use on social media (or both). \nWe’ll be focusing on salad ingredients throughout the workshop and we encourage participants to create a recipe at home for a salad topper (i.e.: a new dressing recipe\, a marinated feta or pepper recipe\, a new recipe for toasted nuts or croutons etc).  Bring your pre-made salad topper to the workshop and we’ll help you style it\, shoot it and edit it so you can go home with finished images for your new recipe.\n(Please note\, there will be no cooking facilities on site) \nBRING YOUR FAVOURITE PROPS\nIf you’ve got a favourite prop\, backdrop or linen that you’d like to have included in any images you take at the workshop\, bring it! If you have a prop you love but just don’t know how to incorporate into your photography\, bring that too! And if you’ve got a few props you no longer need and would love to send off to new homes\, bring those as well! \nClass size is limited to 15 people to ensure that everyone gets one on one attention from both instructors throughout the day. You’ll receive feedback on your work and have the opportunity to ask them questions face to face. \nYOUR INSTRUCTORS\nABOUT LISA BOLTON\nLisa Bolton is a freelance food stylist\, recipe developer and the creative mind behind the successful blog Lisa Dawn Bolton\, a space dedicated to thoughtfully presented and wholesomely prepared meals and recipes. \nLisa holds a masters degree in business and author of the best selling book\, On Boards\, with Penguin Random House.  She is a regular contributor to Food Bloggers of Canada and authors both the On Board in 20 and Food Styling 101 columns. SUMMARY:Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival 2019
DESCRIPTION:One of the Lower Mainland’s most beautiful signs of spring is the arrival of cherry blossoms. To welcome spring to Richmond\, the City of Richmond will hold their third annual Cherry Blossom Festival at Garry Point Park. \nIn Japan\, cherry blossoms are known as sakura\, which are a special flower to the people and the country. The cherry blossom signifies a time of renewal and the cycle of life. Two weeks after the peak of the cherry blossom’s bloom\, the petals begin to fall. The cherry blossom celebration includes picnics under the cherry trees with food and drinks shared with friends and family—this is a tradition known as hanami which translates to “watching blossoms\,” and can be traced back hundreds of years. \nThe Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival is set amongst 255 Akebono cherry blossom trees at Garry Point Park\, on the mouth of the Fraser River. \nThe festival will feature a day of traditional Japanese music and dance performances\, delicious food options and fun activities as celebrated in Japan.
