Vancouver Food Styling Workshop
April 7, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm PDT
This six hour hands-on workshop is designed for food content creators: bloggers, social media managers, Instagrammers, and anyone else who needs to create vibrant, beautiful food imagery
The focus in this session will be food stlying fresh salad ingredients as well as raw fruits and veggies – just in time for spring and summer content creation. We will also cover some basic post-processing and editing techniques using common phone apps and Adobe Lightroom. We’ll wrap up the day with a one hour round table discussion on the business aspects of food photography – licensing, selling images, white label content creation as well how to extend the life of your images.
PLEASE NOTE: the emphasis of this workshop is on food styling and not food photography.
You will learn…
* how to plan and compose a shot
* how to use props, backdrops and garnishes to help tell your story
* how to style the same items in multiple ways to create different looks and moods
* how to frame shots for different mediums (i.e. your blog, Instagram, Facebook, stock photography)
* how to work towards a zero waste photo shoot (you shoot it, you eat it!)
* how to do basic post processing and editing using phone apps or in Adobe Lightroom (bring your laptops and phones!)
* how to repurpose the imagery you create
* how to generate extra income from your food photos
* how to work smarter and more efficiently
GO HOME WITH CONTENT THAT’S READY TO USE
At the end of the workshop we want you to go home with finished content you can use. Whether that’s photos for a blog post or images you can use on social media (or both).
We’ll be focusing on salad ingredients throughout the workshop and we encourage participants to create a recipe at home for a salad topper (i.e.: a new dressing recipe, a marinated feta or pepper recipe, a new recipe for toasted nuts or croutons etc). Bring your pre-made salad topper to the workshop and we’ll help you style it, shoot it and edit it so you can go home with finished images for your new recipe.
(Please note, there will be no cooking facilities on site)
BRING YOUR FAVOURITE PROPS
If you’ve got a favourite prop, backdrop or linen that you’d like to have included in any images you take at the workshop, bring it! If you have a prop you love but just don’t know how to incorporate into your photography, bring that too! And if you’ve got a few props you no longer need and would love to send off to new homes, bring those as well!
Class size is limited to 15 people to ensure that everyone gets one on one attention from both instructors throughout the day. You’ll receive feedback on your work and have the opportunity to ask them questions face to face.
