Japanese Canadian Heritage Cooking Class—Sen Sakamoto Makes Seasonal Aemono

Join designer and Japanese food enthusiast Sen Sakamoto who will lead a cooking class on summer vegetable aemono dishes w/ assorted onigiri!

AEMONO SEASONAL MENU:

We will be making and enjoying three different seasonal vegetable dishes with our aemono sauces to accompany some onigiri to enjoy at the end of the class

  • Shira-ae – white aemono sauce with walnuts and green beans
  • Goma-shoyu with chrysanthemum greens and hakusai cabbage
  • Misodare- miso vinaigrette with skewered and grilled green onions (with thick cut bacon, vegetarians can have smoked tofu)
  • Onigiri DIY mini workshop
  • Mugi cha (summer chilled tea) & fruit

Sen Sakamoto is a Nisei Japanese-Canadian museum designer, curator, and Japanese cooking enthusiast raised in Alberta and has been living in Vancouver for the past 20 years.

Emphasizing local and seasonal ingredients in her cooking, she has an Instagram account (KintokiSweets) where she creates seasonal Japanese wagashi confectioneries, sharing cooking methods and the rich cultural history behind them.
