Alimentaria Mexicana has expanded its culinary footprint with El Cafecito, a vibrant new café offering artisanal coffee and authentic Mexican burritos on Granville Island. This fast-casual concept delivers the rich flavors of Latin American coffee culture in a welcoming, convenient setting for locals and visitors alike.
Nestled within Alimentaria Mexicana, El Cafecito transforms the space into a cozy 16-seat café with an additional outdoor patio, designed by Scott Cohen to blend tropical warmth with modern vibrancy. The café partners with Agro Roasters, a Vancouver-based supplier of organic, sustainably sourced beans, ensuring a premium coffee experience. Signature drinks include the Nitro Café de Olla, a spiced cold brew inspired by traditional Mexican coffee, and the Horchatte, a latte made with horchata, Mexico’s classic cinnamon-infused rice drink.
Beyond coffee, El Cafecito’s menu showcases hearty Mexican burritos, handmade with 10-inch tortillas and filled with bold, comforting flavors from northern Mexico. Options like Frijol Con Queso (beans and cheese), Huevo Con Chorizo (egg and chorizo), and Birria Con Frijol (beef and beans) offer a satisfying grab-and-go meal, available fresh and warm all day.
“We wanted to create a space that balances authenticity and convenience,” says Co-founder and Chef Martín Vargas. “Our burritos are crafted with the same care as our coffee—both meant to be enjoyed on the go or savored in good company.”
As a nod to the creative community of Granville Island, El Cafecito offers a 10% discount to local workers.
Open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., El Cafecito welcomes guests to experience Mexico’s rich culinary traditions.
