Balvenie After Hours Series: Marine Building

May 15, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

Join hosts Jamie Johnson, John Atkin and Brad Turner for an exclusive tasting event accompanied by talks on the crafted interiors of two beloved Vancouver buildings and the design process behind Brad’s glass work and the whisky glasses you will be tasting from.

The Balvenie’s National Brand Ambassador, Jamie Johnson will guide us through their signature handcrafted offerings from The Balvenie. Learn the history of single malt and how The Balvenie maintains its tradition of whisky making from grain to glass. From whisky beginner to seasoned aficionado, there is something for everyone in this immersive experience.

Vancouver civic historian John Atkin will give a talk on the history and craftsmanship of the iconic Marine Building and Hycroft Manor.

2017 Carter Wosk Award Recipient Brad Turner has designed and created the 4-set glasses you will use for the evening tastings. Participants from the Hycroft Manor and Marine Building tasting events will take home a specially boxed set of glasses for personal use or gift giving.

The tablescapes will feature select items from master craftspeople including the work of metal artist Stefanie Dueck. A small selection of these works will be made available for purchase.

The Marine Building

Constructed in 1929, the Marine Building is an Art Deco jewel on the skyline of Vancouver. With its conspicuous location at Burrard and Hastings Street, the terra cotta ornament festooning the exterior to the extraordinary lobby, the Marine Building lived up to its builder’s intent of creating the finest office building on the west coast. Our event with Balvenie takes place in the lobby with its towering ceilings, tile work and ornate brass elevators.
