Cultural Dialogues through Food – Volume 2: Mexican Tortilla Soup

March 1, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm PST

All are welcome to join Flavours of Hope for a fun and engaging evening of traditional food, cooking and storytelling.

Chef Angeles, a talented newcomer from Guadalajara, Mexico will teach us how to make traditional tortilla soup while sharing the history, culture and story of this Mexican dish!

Angeles will show participants how to make her special family recipes of tortilla soup, pineapple chili salsa, and fresh agua fresca, a light fruit drink popular throughout Mexico. She will also explain the different kinds of chilies and spices used in Mexican cooking.

Through cooking and dialogue, Angeles will share her migration story and the healing power of food in helping her to connect with Canadians and integrate into the community. We will explore how food can break down barriers and bring people together around a table.

After learning how to make tortilla soup, participants will all eat together and take home a jar of freshly made pineapple chili salsa.

By creating learning opportunities through cooking and intercultural dialogue, we can build deeper understanding and connections between newcomers and Canadians.

We hope to see you there!
