Beijiang Restaurant, an establishment offering Halal Uyghur and Chinese cuisine in Richmond since 2009, has recently taken over former Good Eat Seafood’s location at 8111 Leslie Road.
“We love the new location with the bigger main dining room and a secluded area to host private events. And we now have our own parking lot”, owner Richard Li was excited about the move.
Richard, who grew up in Ürümqi, the Capital of Xinjiang, has always been deeply in love with the regional cuisines at the foot of Tianshan Mountain. Since he received a degree in hospitality management at George Brown College in Toronto, he has traveled to many countries and worked in the hospitality industries. He found success in the restaurant business and was once running a busy sushi restaurant in California. After he permanently moved to Vancouver, he worked as a manager at Edgewater Casino. The opportunity presented itself when Beijiang restaurant was up for sale, and Richard decided to go back to his root serving the food he always loved, letting more and more people enjoy his hometown flavours.

As Vancouver’s very first Halal restaurant, Beijiang is known for a variety of savoury meat dishes including lamb, chicken, and seafood in the Uyghur style cooking. Featured eats include Dapanji (chicken stew) and various lamb dishes highlighted with cumin and other Xinjiang spices. Along with the traditional fare, the new Beijiang kitchen team has created dishes that incorporate cooking methods from other regional cuisines in China. Their house-made noodles and pastries are influenced by the northern and eastern Chinese provinces, and they have also adapted Cantonese ways of preparing fresh seafood. They will continue reinventing their menu with local ingredients, adapted techniques, and traditional flavours.
Beijiang also has a 2nd location in Vancouver, at 3281 Kingsway.
