Joe Pizza [Gastown] The owner of Kitchen Table Restaurants (Pizzeria Farina, Ask For Luigi, Pourhouse) is taking over Rainier Provisions location on the southwest corner of Carrall and Cordova in Gastown, and launching an unpretentious new counter service restaurant concept serving roman-style pizza called Joe Pizza.   [Scout]

Virtuous Pie [Chinatown] former Earls Yaletown chef Jim Vesal is running the fully licensed 21 seater  at 583 Main St. between Keefer St. and Pender St. in Chinatown, featuring 100% plant-based pizzas made with nut cheeses made from cashews, almonds and soy, vegan ice creams and salads. Heritage Asian Eatery [Coal Harbour] The 40 seater, located at 1108 West Pender St. at Thurlow St., is Chef Felix Zhou (The Parker, Big Trouble, and Beach Bay Cafe)’s first owned restaurant, putting in his unique personal twists on Asian cuisine. [Scout]

The American [Strathcona]   takes over the Electric Owl at 926 Main Street. The new friendly pub will have 150+ seats (licensed for 253) over a 5,000 sqft space.  [Scout]

Cacao [Kitsilano] Venezuelan-born chef Jefferson Alvarez is teaming up with mother and daughter duo Marcela Ramirez and Andrea Ramirez, owners of Epicurean Caffe (1898 West 1st Avenue), heading to a new direction for the cafe, and renaming it to CACAO Progressive Latin, which features a menu that is  “wild, seasonal and local with a Latin twist.”  [DailyHive]

The Poke Shop  [Gastown] is  serving the Hawaiian-style  fish bowls at 306 Water Street, and owner Brian Leung (Teppan Kitchen) is planning to have three locations in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. [DailyHive]

Olive & Ruby Cafe [Kitsilano] is located at 2839 West Broadway, serving a variety of juices, bowls, sandwiches, salads and sweet treats.  [Vanfoodster]

Mirai Japanese Cuisine [Gastown] is taking over Thai Confusion‘s location at 117 West Pender Street.  [Vanfoodster]

Nero Belgian Waffle Bar [Downtown] is taking over the old Commune Cafe space at 1002 Seymour Street, with a 30-seat patio, and a commissary space (1,200 sqft) that allows them to expand  include in-house ice cream making and a small selection of Belgian beers, dessert wines, and dessert cocktails. Customers will have a glimpse into the waffle making process through a open kitchen featuring five multi-waffle irons. [Scout]

The Workshop Vegetarian Cafe [North Vancouver] is serving Japanese inspired fresh vegetarian dishes from signature ramen to veggie bowls at 296 Pemberton Ave, North Vancouver.   [Vanfoodster]

Breakfast Table [Fairview] is all about “Comfort Foods in a Comfortable Place”. Located at 1481 West Broadway, the breakfast dishes featuring locally sourced ingredients are created by chef George Koay (Lift, Beyond, Pearl) and chef Mike Lee (Boulevard, Gerard).   [Vanfoodster]
