Exciting news for fans of Sichuan Chinese cuisine! Best Fortune Restaurant is making its debut at Unit 2130 – 8391 Alexandra Rd in Richmond, just in time for Chinese New Year celebrations.
Taking over the space formerly occupied by Miss Fu in Chengdu, renowned for its Sichuan-style Cold Pot Skewers, Best Fortune acknowledges the popularity of this dish among the younger demographic frequenting Alexandra Road, known as North America’s prominent Chinese food street.
With over 40 types of skewers, ranging from vegetables and meats to seafood, Best Fortune’s cold pot skewers resemble Chinese hot pot. Expertly cooked by the chef, these skewers are infused with spices and served in a cold seasoned broth, akin to Japanese yakitori, perfect for enjoying alongside conversations over drinks.
While skewers are a highlight, Best Fortune’s primary focus lies in authentic Sichuan dishes. Contrary to the notion of exclusively spicy cuisine, Sichuan meals incorporate a balance of flavors, including sweet, sour, numbing-spicy (from Sichuan pepper), bitter, aromatic, and salty elements. Signature dishes like Chili Pepper Chicken, Boiled Beef in Chili Oil, and Spicy Boiling Fish showcase the skillful use of these bold flavors.
Notably, all spice blends at Best Fortune are crafted from scratch using 100% natural spices and aromatics, eschewing pre-made flavor packs commonly used in local Sichuan restaurants.
Owner Catherine Yang emphasizes their commitment to quality ingredients, stating, “We insisted on using the best ingredients for our dishes. Our spice mixes are made from scratch, and we use fresh, high-quality cooking oil for pre-frying in our dishes, which makes such a difference, providing not just bold but also clean flavors.”
After a soft opening period, Best Fortune is set to offer its full menu just in time for Chinese New Year celebrations, including a limited-time “Best Fortune” Lunar New Year Dinner Set for Four menu at $98, featuring Prosperous Cold Platter, Lucky Specialty Wok Chicken, Famous Lamb Hot Pot, Best Fortune Duck Blood Stew, and Champion Spicy Boiling Fish.
