Chancho Tortilleria, Vancouver’s popular Mexican eatery, has reopened its doors in a new location on Commercial Drive. The new restaurant offers the same mouth-watering menu as its previous location, along with some exciting additions.
To celebrate its new home, Chancho is holding a soft opening this weekend (April 14-17), where guests can enjoy delicious Mexican cuisine and know that $1 from every order will go towards Kinbrace, an East Vancouver charity that helps refugee claimants settle into the community.
The new location, which was once Cafe Deux Soleils, has 70 seats, a front patio, and an expanded tortilleria, allowing more diners to savor Chancho’s freshly made tortillas crafted with non-GMO heirloom native corn sourced directly from Mexican farmers.
The menu features traditional Mexican dishes, such as juicy carnitas and grilled fresh veggies, alongside a boosted drinks menu of natural wines, Mezcals, and new cocktails.
The restaurant is open until 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with extended hours planned for the coming months.
Co-owners Ernesto Gomez and Darragh McFeely are delighted to operate Chancho in the beloved location, and they aim to continue Cafe Deux Soleils’ legacy as a gathering place for the Commercial Drive community.
The interior has been designed by Scott Cohen, and new murals by artist Graham Landin evoke a feeling of the previous location on Davie St.
